Lot 203: A Set of Mid-20th Century Glazed Earthenware Tea and Dinner Wares with Purple Floral Decoration
This set of glazed earthenware tea and dinner wares is attributed to Universal Potteries in the Clematis pattern and Ballerina shape. The service features a cream-coloured ground decorated with a purple floral transfer pattern of clematis with green stems and leaves. The collection includes an oval serving platter, dinner plates, side plates, a teapot with lid, and teacups with saucers. The teacups and teapot lid are finished in a contrasting solid lavender-purple glaze. The forms are characterised by concentric ring moulding to the rims and bodies. No maker’s marks are visible on the upper surfaces of the pieces.
Condition report:
The service shows signs of age and use. The large oval platter exhibits significant crazing to the glaze. Staining and surface debris are present in the interior of the teacups. General surface wear and minor abrasions consistent with age are visible across the set.
