A pair of glazed porcelain figurines depicting Chinese fishermen in a traditional blue and white aesthetic. Each figure is rendered standing upon a stylized, white-glazed base shaped like swirling clouds or waves. The figures are dressed in loose-fitting robes decorated with underglaze blue floral sprigs and geometric patterns. Both subjects wear wide-brimmed coolie-style hats with blue rims and carry ceramic yokes across their shoulders. Suspended from these yokes by gold-toned cords are small porcelain baskets containing fish. One figurine features two additional large blue-glazed fish at the feet. The garments and yokes are further detailed with hand-painted gold-tone accents. The porcelain is finished with a clear, high-gloss glaze. No maker marks or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the exterior surfaces of the pieces.
Condition report:
Both figurines are in good structural condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restorations to the porcelain bodies. The underglaze blue decoration remains vibrant. There is visible wear and dulling to the gold-tone paint on the yokes and cords (photo 1). Minor surface dust is present in the recessed areas of the cloud-like bases and the folds of the robes. The suspended baskets appear complete and securely attached.
