Lot 510: UK 1977 Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Pair of Medallions, Silver
A pair of commemorative medallions presented in a blue velvet-lined case, issued to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II (1952-1977). These silver-toned tokens are oval in form. One medallion features the Royal Cypher ‘EIIR’ centrally, positioned beneath a crown. The second medallion depicts a central monogram composed of an ‘E’ intertwined with a stylized character, enclosed within a circular border containing a garter-style inscription. Both items bear the text ‘Silver Jubilee’ to the left and the date range ‘1952-1977’ to the right of the central motifs. The items are housed in a rectangular presentation box with a hinged lid, containing a blue velvet-covered insert and a protective foam lining.
Condition report:
Both medallions exhibit significant surface tarnish and dark toning, particularly evident around the perimeters and within the recessed areas of the struck designs (photo 1). The metal surfaces show minor scuffing and fine hairline scratches consistent with handling. The blue velvet lining of the presentation box shows some light dust and surface wear (photo 1). The protective foam lining on the interior lid shows yellowing and degradation typical of age.
