Lot 317: J.W. Manop 'Pink Roses' and 'Lilacs' (Signed)
A pair of floral still life studies executed in pastel on paper. The first work depicts a full bouquet of pale pink and white roses arranged in a rounded, footed glass vase, rendered with soft, impressionistic strokes. The second work shows a cluster of white and blue flowers, likely lilacs, in a similar loose style. Both compositions are set against a neutral, atmospheric background. The rose study bears a handwritten signature or inscription in the upper right corner that reads J W / M a n o p. Each artwork is presented under glass in a multi-layered framing scheme comprising a wide, neutral-toned mount and a golden inner slip. The outer frames are constructed from wood with a dark finish and gilded leading edges. A small orange adhesive price sticker is visible on the upper left corner of the frame for the rose study.
Condition report:
The artworks appear to be in good stable condition within their mounts, showing no signs of foxing or paper degradation through the glass. The frames exhibit minor surface wear and small scuffs to the wooden edges, consistent with age and handling (photo 1). The glass on both pieces shows significant surface glare from overhead lighting, which does not affect the underlying media.
