A collection of four framed and glazed topographical works on paper, comprising three watercolours and one print, each depicting historic English architecture. The first watercolour depicts a church tower with a clock, executed in a traditional representational style. The second watercolour, titled Eastgate, Chester in the lower left margin, depicts the historic Eastgate clock and arch with figures; it is signed in the lower right H. Robson in a fluid script. The third work is a detailed topographical print titled DURHAM, FROM THE NORTH EAST. in the lower margin; additional printed text in the margin includes John Cassell and publication details for Fisher, Son & Co. London. The fourth watercolour shows a city gate and cathedral spires, titled in the lower margin Minster + Bootham Bar; it is signed in the lower right F. Robson. All four works are housed in matching gilt-finish wood frames with multi-layered cream mounts.
Condition report:
All items are presented in matching gilt frames which show minor surface wear and small chips to the gilt finish, particularly visible at the corners and edges (photo 1). The paper supports for all works show evidence of light toning and yellowing consistent with age, notably in the margins and mounts. A prominent vertical reflection of a fluorescent light is visible across the glazing of three items in the photograph, but this is a result of lighting during photography and not a defect of the items. No significant foxing, water damage, or mat burn is visible through the glazing. The items have not been examined out of their frames.
