Lot 291: Leslie H. Chorley, A Collection of Framed Prints including 'Helvellyn & Ullswater from Silver Bay' (Signed)
A collection of framed landscape and architectural prints on paper, including one tinted lithograph and several monochrome or sepia-toned works. The largest piece, oriented vertically, depicts a mountainous lakeside vista. It is inscribed in pencil along the right margin with the title ‘Helvellyn & Ullswater from Silver Bay’ and signed ‘Leslie H. Chorley’ in pencil at the lower right. The remaining smaller works are oriented horizontally and depict rustic stone cottages and outbuildings, characteristic of the English Lake District. Each of these smaller prints bears a pencil signature ‘Leslie H. Chorley’ at the lower right, and one is inscribed ‘Troutbeck’ at the lower left. The prints are mounted behind card mats; the largest is set within a dark brown mat, while the others feature off-white mats. All are housed in dark wood frames with gilt inner fillets. An orange adhesive label reading ‘291’ is present on the glass of one frame (photo 1).
Condition report:
The collection is in good overall condition. Minor instances of foxing and light discoloration are visible on the paper supports of the smaller prints (photo 1). The frames show minor surface abrasions consistent with handling. There are no visible tears or creases to the paper.
