Lot 24: A Four Piece Mid Century Vanity Set with Gilt Floral Decoration and Original Presentation Box
A set of vanity items comprising a hand mirror, a hairbrush, a clothes brush, and a comb, dating to the mid-twentieth century. The reverse of the mirror and the two brushes feature panels of pearlescent white acrylic with a marbled texture. Each panel is decorated with an etched and gilt motif of poppies and wheat stalks. The handles and frames are constructed from gold-toned metal; the handles are finished with a reeded texture and the frames feature a foliate scroll border. The comb is made of cream-coloured plastic with a matching decorative metal spine. The set is housed in its original cream-coloured cardboard presentation box, which features a white satin lining with individual moulded compartments for each piece. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin labels are visible on the items or the packaging.
Condition report:
The set is in good vintage condition. The gilt floral motifs on the mirror and brushes show light surface wear and minor thinning to the gold finish (photo 1). The pearlescent panels are intact with no visible cracks. The bristles on the hairbrush and clothes brush appear clean and complete (photo 1). The satin lining of the box shows minor yellowing and scattered foxing consistent with age (photo 1). The exterior of the box exhibits light scuffing and wear to the edges.
