This group comprises three metalware service items: two teapots and a matching egg service. The first teapot features a lobed, pumpkin-shaped body in a matte grey Britannia metal. The hinged lid is topped with a cast finial in the form of a stem and leaf, and the handle is decorated with foliate scrolls and fitted with two heat insulators. The spout is cast with leaf and scroll motifs at the base and tip. An incised mark on the upper curve of the handle reads JAMES DIXON & SONS above the word SHEFFIELD. The second teapot is of an oval, straight-sided form with vertical fluting, constructed from silver-plated metal. The body is decorated with bright-cut engraved bands featuring geometric and foliate patterns. The lid is fitted with a carved bone or bovine horn finial in a domed shape. The third item is a silver-plated egg service consisting of a circular stand with a central finger-ring handle, six removable egg cups with scalloped rims, and six matching spoons held on a notched central plate. An orange adhesive price sticker reading 25 is present on the engraved teapot (photo 3) and the egg stand (photo 4).
Condition report:
The Britannia metal teapot shows surface oxidation and a dark patina throughout (photo 2). There is a visible gap and misalignment where the lid meets the rim (photo 2). The engraved teapot shows significant wear to the silver plating on the lid, handle, and raised edges, exposing the base metal (photo 3). Several surface scratches are visible on the body (photo 3). The egg service exhibits heavy tarnish on the spoons and significant wear to the plating inside the cups and on the handle, exposing a yellowish base metal (photo 4).
