Lot 242: J. Swansbury, J. Cafieri and Another, A Trio of Landscape Artworks (Signed)
A trio of landscape artworks comprising two oil or acrylic paintings and one watercolour. The first work, an oil or acrylic on board or canvas, depicts a rural scene with a stone arch bridge spanning a narrow stream, executed in a palette of greens and earth tones with visible impasto. It is housed in a dark wooden frame with a gilded inner slip and is signed J Swansbury 88 in the lower right corner. The second work is an oil or acrylic on canvas or board depicting a sun-dappled woodland path leading toward a body of water, dominated by a large deciduous tree in the foreground. This piece is presented in a light-coloured linen-textured frame with a gilded inner edge and bears the signature J. CAFIERI in the lower right corner. The third piece is a watercolour on paper showing a white-washed farmhouse and stone outbuildings set against a backdrop of hazy blue mountains. It is mounted within a dark olive-green mount and a simple wooden frame, featuring a small, stylised monogram in the lower right corner that appears to be the characters PF or FB. Several frames bear adhesive labels, including a white rectangular label printed with 18 and an orange rectangular label printed with 242.
Condition report:
The artworks generally appear to be in stable condition. The J. Swansbury painting shows minor surface dust and light scuffing to the wooden frame (photo 2). The J. Cafieri painting exhibits light surface dust and minor wear to the edges of the linen-textured frame (photo 3). The watercolour appears well-preserved behind glass, with no obvious signs of foxing or damp staining to the paper or mount (photo 4). General surface dust and light age-related wear are present across all frames (photo 1).
