Lot 223: Three Mid-20th Century Children's Wool Double-Breasted Overcoats including a Chilprufe Example
A collection of three children’s tailored overcoats dating from the mid-20th century, constructed from heavyweight wool with contrasting corduroy collars. The collection includes a flecked wool tweed overcoat tailored by the British manufacturer Chilprufe, featuring a multicoloured weave with tan, green, and blue flecks. This garment is designed with a tan corduroy collar, a four-button front, and two horizontal flap pockets, with the interior neck finished in a cream silk or rayon binding with a pink rosebud print. The second overcoat is crafted from cream wool felt or melton cloth with a dark brown corduroy collar and tan satin-finish lining, featuring a double-breasted formation with six dark brown plastic buttons and two vertical welt pockets. The third overcoat is made from heavyweight brown herringbone wool with a mid-brown corduroy collar and copper-toned satin-finish lining, featuring a double-breasted arrangement with six dark brown buttons and two horizontal flap pockets. All three garments are fully lined.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition overall. The cream coat shows light surface soiling and dust accumulation consistent with storage. The flecked tweed coat exhibits light wear to the corduroy collar and minor fraying at the buttonholes. The brown herringbone coat displays some pilling and light surface wear consistent with age and use. No significant moth damage is visible across the lot. All original buttons appear to be present.
