A group of two mid-20th century storage pieces. The first is a tall laundry hamper or linen chest of rectangular form, constructed with woven fibre over a wooden frame in a tan finish. It features a hinged lid with braided trim around the edges and a central turned wooden peg handle. The second item is a horizontal storage ottoman or blanket chest. The body is upholstered in a pink woven fabric and is raised on four black-finished metal hairpin legs. The hinged lid consists of a white-painted wooden frame with a padded top upholstered in a floral patterned fabric featuring multi-coloured sprigs on a cream ground. Both items are characteristic of British utility furniture from the 1950s or 1960s. No maker’s marks are visible.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit wear consistent with age and use. The laundry hamper shows light fraying to the braided trim on the lid. The storage ottoman shows significant chipping and paint loss to the white-painted wooden border of the lid. The fabric components on both items show light surface soiling and age-related fading.
