Lot 305: A Late Victorian Walnut Spindle Back Nursing Chair with Peach Velvet Upholstery
A late 19th-century nursing chair constructed from walnut with a dark-stained finish. The chair features a spindle back design with a central vertical splat featuring a carved sunflower and foliate motif. The over-stuffed seat is upholstered in a peach-coloured velvet fabric, finished with a decorative gold gimp trim. The chair is supported by turned front legs terminating in brass casters and out-swept square-section rear legs. An orange paper inventory sticker is present on the back rail, bearing the printed number 23 and handwritten digits 305.
Condition report:
The chair is in fair condition with visible signs of age and use. There are scuffs, scratches, and areas of minor finish loss to the walnut frame, particularly on the legs and spindles. The upholstery remains intact but exhibits minor fading and surface wear consistent with its age and historical use.
