Lot 481: An Assortment of Vintage Metal Decorative Tins and an Industrial Component
This lot comprises an assortment of vintage metal items, including various decorative tins and a cast metal industrial part. The collection features a large cylindrical tea or biscuit tin with a black ground and a lid decorated with a gold-tone floral motif, possibly chrysanthemums, in the Chinoiserie style. Also included is a small square tin with a lithographed lid depicting a central scene with avian and floral elements within a red patterned border. A deep square metal caddy with embossed detailing and an octagonal tin with a red-painted lid are also present, along with a loose circular metal lid. The industrial component is a cast metal part, appearing to be a vintage carburettor body or a small engine pump component, featuring various ports and mounting points. The items are of the type often associated with mid-20th-century British household storage and mechanical equipment.
Condition report:
The items are in an aged, as-found condition. The decorative tins exhibit surface wear, scratches, and areas of loss to the lithographic and painted finishes. Patches of surface oxidation and rust are evident on several of the metal containers. The cast metal mechanical component shows significant surface corrosion and oxidation consistent with age and long-term storage.
