A vintage nursery rattle and teething ring featuring a traditional British guardsman motif. The piece consists of a hollow-cast silver-coloured metal figure of a guardsman in ceremonial attire, including a textured bearskin cap and a tunic with integral button detailing. The figure is attached by a metal loop to a solid, circular teething ring made from a matte, brownish composite material or early plastic. Small rectangular stamped marks are visible on the shoulder sections of the soldier figure, although the characters within the stamps are worn and illegible. The construction appears to be two die-stamped or cast halves joined together.
Condition report:
The metal components display a heavy, dark aged patina and significant tarnish, particularly in the recessed areas of the casting. There is general surface wear, minor scuffing, and light scratches to both the metal figure and the composite ring, consistent with age and use. No structural damage, splits, or significant dents are apparent.
