Lot 805: An Assortment of Vintage Figurative and Decorative Brooches and Pins
This lot comprises an assortment of vintage costume jewellery brooches featuring varied motifs and materials. The collection includes an equestrian-themed bar brooch in gold-tone metal, depicting a horse’s head mounted on a riding crop with a textured handle. An oval micro-mosaic brooch features small multicoloured glass tesserae forming floral and star designs, set within a gold-tone frame with a twisted rope border, characteristic of Italian Grand Tour souvenirs. A large sculptural brooch depicts an Edwardian-style female figure in a wide-brimmed hat and long skirt holding a golf club, finished with an antiqued brass-tone patina. Also included is a small figural brooch in dark-patinated metal featuring a horizontal row of children in relief, possibly in traditional Dutch dress. The collection is completed by a butterfly brooch with four polished mauve-coloured cabochons, likely stone or glass, set within a gold-tone wire frame. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible on the obverse of the pieces.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition overall. The micro-mosaic appears complete with no missing tesserae visible. The figurative lady brooch features an intentional darkened patina to highlight details. The metal elements show age-appropriate surface wear, light oxidation, and tarnish consistent with age. Pin mechanisms on the reverse have not been tested.
