Lot 304: A Pair of Georgian Style Brass Candlesticks
A pair of cast brass candlesticks in the Georgian style. Each piece features a multi-knopped, baluster-turned stem terminating in a cylindrical sconce with a wide, circular drip pan. The stems are supported by square bases with incurved corners. The construction indicates these were cast and finished on a lathe. This form is characteristic of English metalware designs from the 18th and 19th centuries, often incorporating a push-up mechanism for candle ejection. Both items currently contain white wax candles and have orange adhesive labels affixed to the drip pans.
Condition report:
The candlesticks are in good overall condition, exhibiting an even, aged patina. Minor surface tarnish and oxidation are present, particularly within the recesses of the turned decoration, consistent with age and use. No significant dents or structural damage are evident.
