This wash jug and basin set is constructed from earthenware or ironstone with blue transfer-printed decoration. The set includes a large jug with a bulbous body, a decoratively moulded handle with scrollwork, and a flared, shaped spout. The accompanying basin features a corresponding shaped rim and deep well. Both pieces are decorated in the style of mid-to-late nineteenth-century British utility ware. The primary pattern consists of a central landscape scene depicting a large stately manor house in a parkland setting with mature trees and figures, enclosed within foliate and C-scroll motifs. The interior of the basin and the rims of both vessels are finished with a wide border of scrolling floral and leaf designs. No maker’s marks or backstamps are visible on the surfaces shown. Modern orange price stickers and a small white lot number sticker are present.
Condition report:
The set appears to be in good overall condition with no visible cracks, chips, or significant repairs. There may be minor surface crazing or small kiln marks consistent with age and material.
