An Art Deco architectural fireplace surround of one-piece ceramic construction, dating to the circa 1930s. The surround is finished in a multi-toned mottled glaze, incorporating flecks of cream, pale blue, and terracotta pink. The design features characteristic geometric stepped motifs, including a prominent five-stepped skyscraper detail at the top centre and concentric rectangular mouldings surrounding the central fire aperture. This item is typical of British domestic interiors from the inter-war period. No maker’s marks, stamps, or signatures are visible on the front or side elevations.
Condition report:
The item is in fair to good vintage condition. There is visible surface grime and dust consistent with its nature as architectural salvage. Minor chips and nibbles are present along the sharp edges and corners, consistent with age and previous installation. No major structural cracks or failures are apparent.
