A pair of matching trumpet-form vases in the Byrdes pattern, attributed to Hofbauer, Germany. These items are crafted from 24 per cent lead crystal and feature a flared, scalloped rim with deep starburst and fan cutting. The main body is decorated with geometric diamond and cross-hatch cutting, interspersed with three oval cranberry-flashed reserves. These ruby-coloured panels are wheel-engraved with naturalistic scenes depicting birds amongst marshland foliage. Each vase terminates in a short, faceted stem on a circular star-cut base. The glass exhibits high clarity and sharp facets characteristic of quality lead crystal production.
Condition report:
The vases are in good overall condition. The cutting remains crisp and well-defined. No major chips, cracks, or significant cloudiness are visible. Minor surface wear consistent with age and use may be present on the underside of the bases.
