A Victorian style brass helmet-shaped coal scuttle
A Victorian style helmet-shaped coal scuttle constructed from sheet brass. The vessel features a visible vertical seam and a rolled rim, supported by a flared circular pedestal base. It is fitted with a substantial cast brass swing handle secured by decorative pierced mounts. The interior is finished with a grey-toned metal lining, likely zinc or galvanised steel. No maker’s marks or stamps are visible on the item.
The exterior brass has a polished finish with evidence of age and use, including surface wear, light pitting, and oxidation. Small deposits of verdigris are present along the seams and near the base. The interior lining is heavily oxidised with signs of historical use for coal storage.
