The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Auction house commission:

A late Victorian or Edwardian style fire fender or hearth curb. The construction comprises a lower rectangular brass channel and an upper cylindrical brass rail. The top rail is held in position by four decorative cast metal supports. The front corners are decorated with cast foliate and scrollwork ornaments. The various components are mechanically joined. No maker marks or stamps are present on the object. The item currently bears two temporary adhesive inventory labels.

The fender is in an aged and unpolished condition, exhibiting significant tarnishing and a darkened patina across the brass surfaces. There are visible deposits of green verdigris oxidation, notably on the cast supports and corner ornaments. The cast metal supports show a loss of their original finish, exposing a greyish base metal. The piece is dirty and shows signs of wear consistent with its age and previous use.
