Lot 361: Charles George Lewis after John Prescott Knight, The Cover Side, 19th-Century Steel Engraving
A 19th-century monochrome steel engraving titled The Cover Side, engraved by Charles George Lewis after the original composition by John Prescott Knight. The intaglio print depicts a rustic sporting scene set within a woodland clearing. The composition features two figures and several hounds resting in the foreground near a wooden fence and a forest path. The work exhibits a visible plate mark and includes printed inscriptions in the lower margin: J. P. KNIGHT to the lower left, C. G. LEWIS to the lower right, and the title THE COVER SIDE positioned centrally. Further small-scale publication text is present at the bottom edge of the margin. The print is presented with a double mat in a glazed gilt and black wood frame.

Condition report:
The impression appears sharp with a well-preserved tonal range. The paper exhibits moderate even toning consistent with the age of the piece. No significant foxing, staining, or visible tears are apparent under the glazing. The frame shows minor surface scuffs and wear to the edges.
