A pair of antique carriage lamps manufactured by Joseph Lucas Ltd of Birmingham. The lamps are constructed with square-section steel or iron bodies finished in black paint, featuring brass mounting stems and rims. Each lamp contains four bevelled clear glass panels set into the frame. The cylindrical brass stems are stamped with the maker mark RELIANCE REGD above the registered design number 180732. These are original oil or candle lanterns and have not been electrified, although one lamp currently contains a loose modern incandescent bulb.
Condition report:
The lamps are in an unrestored condition with significant signs of age. There is heavy oxidation, surface rust, and pitting across the black-painted metal bodies. The brass elements show a dark, uneven patina with visible verdigris and tarnish. The bevelled glass panels are largely intact but require cleaning; auction stickers are present on the exterior glass.
