A trio of glazed earthenware items in the style of South Devon motto ware, attributed to factories such as Watcombe, Aller Vale, or Longpark. The group consists of a sugar basin, a cream jug, and a small conical pot. The sugar basin is of squat, bulbous form with a wide aperture and a dark brown glazed interior. The exterior features a stylised floral motif in brown, green, and yellow on a cream-coloured ground, with a sgraffito inscription reading elp yerzel tu in a regional phonetic dialect. The cream jug has a rounded body and a single loop handle, decorated with a central black cockerel motif, a border of blue oval spots at the shoulder, and a dark brown rim and handle. The small conical pot, possibly an inkwell or sander, tapers to a small central aperture and is set on a narrow foot with a blue banded base. It is decorated with a stylised bird motif and a partially obscured inscription including the words A word and next. All pieces are finished with a clear glaze over hand-painted and slip-trailed decoration.
Condition report:
All three items exhibit significant fine crazing throughout the glaze. No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible upon inspection.
