Lot 196: A 19th Century Copper and Brass Bed Warmer with Turned Wooden Handle

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A 19th-century domestic bed warmer, consistent with British Victorian utilitarian metalware. The item features a circular pan and a hinged lid constructed from hammered copper sheet metal. The lid is attached to the body with a simple hinge. A metal socket, likely brass or a copper alloy, is fixed to the pan with two rivets and holds a long, turned wooden handle with a dark finish. No maker’s marks or other identifying inscriptions are present on the base, lid, or handle.

Condition report:

The item shows a significant aged patina across all metal surfaces. Notable verdigris is present around the rivets and where the handle socket meets the copper pan. The copper body displays minor indentations and surface wear consistent with historical use. The wooden handle has some scuffing and loss of finish but remains structurally sound. The hinge is functional.
