This collection of Japanese export porcelain consists of a matching cream jug and twin-handled lidded sugar bowl, together with a teapot. The pieces are crafted from thin eggshell porcelain and feature hand-painted decoration. The cream jug and sugar bowl are decorated with a minimalist landscape showing a stylized mountain peak and birds in flight against a blue wash sky. The teapot features a more elaborate scene with a traditional pagoda amongst flowering cherry blossoms and a large bird with colourful plumage. All items are finished with gilded highlights on the rims, handles, and spouts. No maker’s marks are visible on the exterior of the pieces. These items are attributed to mid-20th-century Japanese export production, in the style of Kutani porcelain.
Condition report:
The items appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips or cracks. There is evidence of light surface wear and minor rubbing to the gilded highlights, which is consistent with age and domestic use.
