Lot 444: A Chinoiserie Style Blue and White Ceramic Double Happiness Ginger Jar Table Lamp
A Chinoiserie-style ceramic table lamp of bulbous ginger jar form. The body is decorated in underglaze blue on a white ground, featuring the Double Happiness (Shuangxi) character repeated amidst stylized scrolling foliage and peony blooms. The design is framed by bands of geometric Greek key fretwork at the shoulder and the base. The lamp is fitted with a metal lamp holder and a spider-style frame supporting a pale blue conical fabric shade, which features a navy blue bound lower rim. The electrical fitting includes a white power cord and a standard UK three-pin plug. An orange inventory sticker marked 444 and a small white sticker marked 15 15 are present on the ceramic body. The lamp holder is fitted with a safety label stating MAX 60W LAMP SHAPE and currently contains a Philips brand energy-saving bulb. No maker’s marks or factory stamps are visible on the ceramic base.
