Lot 443: A Vintage Vulcanised Fibre and Metal Bound Steamer Trunk
A mid-20th-century utility steamer trunk of rectangular form. The exterior is constructed from black-coated vulcanised fibre, reinforced by longitudinal metal bands and secured with a series of metal rivets or studs. The corners are fitted with metal reinforcement plates. The design is utilitarian, intended for heavy travel use. A small orange adhesive inventory label numbered 443 is present on the exterior. No maker marks or manufacturer stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The trunk shows significant signs of age and use. There is widespread scuffing, scratching, and abrasion to the black finish. Large patches of the surface coating have been lost, particularly to the centre of the lid, revealing the fibrous underlayer beneath. The metal bands and rivets exhibit surface oxidation and general wear.
