A late 19th to early 20th-century Louis XVI style gilt gesso girandole mirror. The oval frame is constructed from gilt gesso over a wooden base, featuring a beaded inner border surrounded by relief-moulded scrolling foliate and floral motifs. A decorative crest at the base incorporates large scrolling acanthus leaves and a central floral rosette. Attached to the lower section of the frame is a three-branch candelabrum with scrolling arms terminating in urn-shaped candle nozzles and circular drip pans. The oval mirror plate is set within the ornate frame. There are no visible maker’s marks or signatures. A white circular sticker with the number 7 is present on the frame.
Condition report:
The gilt gesso frame is in generally good condition with minor surface wear and light abrasions commensurate with age. There are no significant losses to the decorative moulding apparent from the primary image. The mirror plate is clear with no immediate evidence of major foxing or silvering loss, although there is visible surface dust, light grime, and minor surface marks. A small orange sticker and loose white wax candles are resting on the glass surface. The piece is designed for vertical wall mounting.
