An English Windsor armchair of nineteenth-century design. The chair features a classic hoop-back construction with a central decorative pierced splat flanked by vertical spindles. It incorporates a continuous bentwood armrest supported by turned spindles over a solid seat. The seat is currently fitted with a non-integral upholstered cushion featuring a traditional floral pattern with roses and various blooms on a cream-coloured ground. The chair is constructed from dark-stained hardwoods, traditionally a combination of elm for the seat and ash or beech for the bentwood and turned components. The chair is raised on turned legs joined by stretchers. A small yellow auction lot sticker is present on the outer edge of the back hoop.
Condition report:
The chair shows wear commensurate with age and use, including surface scratches and rubbing to the finish, most notably on the armrests and hoop back. The upholstery appears to be in good, clean condition.
