Lot 515: A Pair of Gothic Revival Carved Oak Church Pews
A pair of Gothic Revival church pews or short settles, constructed from solid oak with a medium-to-dark brown stained finish. Each bench features substantial solid wood end panels with architectural peaked tops. The end panels are embellished with a series of raised, diamond-shaped decorative bosses along the vertical edges and pierced trefoil-style cutouts at the base. The seating consists of a plain plank seat and a solid backrest. The design is characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century ecclesiastical furniture. No maker’s marks or stamps are present.
Condition report:
The benches are in good structural condition. Visible surface wear is present throughout, consistent with age and use, including scuffs, scratches, and minor abrasions to the finish. There are white residues, possibly paint or plaster dust, on the lower sections of the end panels. An auction house lot sticker is present on one end panel.
