Lot 514: An Oak Trestle-Base Side Table in the Style of Axel Einar Hjorth
A 20th-century oak trestle-base side or work table. The item features a rectangular solid oak top supported by a simple trestle base. The base is composed of two vertical uprights with shaped bracket supports, joined by a single, low-positioned rectangular stretcher, and terminating in shaped feet. The design is closely related to the Sport series designed by Axel Einar Hjorth for Nordiska Kompaniet (NK) during the 1930s. No maker marks, stamps, or labels were identified during inspection.
Condition report:
The table shows significant signs of use and wear. The top surface has extensive finish loss, staining, and surface scratches. The base exhibits general wear, scuffing, and minor knocks, particularly around the feet and stretcher, consistent with utility use.
