Buyer's Premium:

This lot consists of two framed decorative maps relating to British maritime and regional history. The first item is a commemorative etched metallic plate map of the Isles of Scilly, produced in a pewter-style finish. The plate bears the mark A.E. Williams in the lower-right corner, a known British pewter manufacturer. The map provides a historical account of the 1707 maritime disaster involving Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell and the loss of HMS Association. It features the armorial bearings of Shovell and Sir John Hill, a detailed compass rose, and a depiction of a period sailing vessel. The plate is housed in an ornate gilt-finished wood frame with a textured inner slip and is protected by glass.

The second item is a coloured decorative map print of the Isle of Wight and The Solent. The map is executed in a traditional cartographic style, featuring multiple heraldic coats of arms along the left margin and an ornate foliate border. A vignette in the lower-right corner depicts a coastal ruin. The map includes various nautical and geographical labels such as The Solent and Lymington. This print is presented under glass with a wide sage-green mount and is housed in a coordinating ornate gilt-finished frame.

Condition report:

Both items are in good decorative condition. The etched metallic plate of the Isles of Scilly shows no visible signs of oxidation, pitting, or surface damage behind the glass. The Isle of Wight print appears well-preserved with no evidence of foxing, moisture staining, or tearing. Both gilt frames remain structurally sound with only minor surface abrasions and expected shelf wear consistent with age.
