Lot 147: A Chinese Famille Rose Phoenix and Peony Porcelain Bowl
A Chinese porcelain bowl of deep circular form with a flared rim, raised on a short foot rim. The exterior is decorated in overglaze enamels in the Famille Rose palette, depicting a phoenix with multi-coloured plumage amidst scrolling peony blossoms and various floral sprays. The design is executed in shades of pink, green, turquoise, and iron-red against a white ground. The interior is finished with an undecorated white glaze. The exterior body is marked with the shuangxi or Double Happiness symbol rendered in iron-red, a motif traditionally associated with marriage. The style of decoration and the specific enamel palette suggest a 20th-century date of manufacture, following late Qing dynasty or Republic period traditions.

The bowl is in good overall condition. There are no obvious chips, cracks, or visible signs of restoration to the rim or body. Minor surface wear and small pinhead-sized firing imperfections are present, consistent with manufacture and age. The enamels remain bright and well-preserved.
