Lot 146: A Set of Seven Hornsea Pottery Heirloom Pattern Storage and Spice Jars
A set of seven stoneware kitchen storage jars in the Heirloom pattern, designed by John Clappison for Hornsea Pottery. The collection consists of one large cylindrical storage jar and six smaller spice jars. The jars feature a relief-moulded geometric pattern of interlocking shapes finished in a dark brown glaze over an ochre yellow ground. The spice jars are marked with integrated text labels for contents including CINNAMON, NUTMEG, PEPPERCORN, GINGER, and ALLSPICE. Each jar is fitted with a flat, dark-toned wooden lid, and the spice jars are presented in a matching horizontal wooden rack.
Condition report:
The set appears to be in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Small orange adhesive auction labels are present on the lids. Minor surface wear and natural variations in the wood grain are consistent with age and domestic use.
