March sale
Lot 8:
A pair of globular brass kettles featuring chased and engraved decoration of scrolling foliate patterns and stylised figures. The kettles are constructed with cast brass spouts and handle supports, featuring turned, dark-stained wooden handles. Each kettle includes a fitted lid topped with a central finial. The set is presented on a rectangular tray comprising a pale green onyx or marbled stone slab secured within a tubular brass-coloured metal frame with rounded handles. The decorative style is characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century export wares from the Indian subcontinent or Middle East. No maker marks or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces.
The brass surfaces show tarnish and oxidation (patina) throughout. Adhesive auction lot stickers are present on both wooden handles. The lid finials differ slightly in shape, suggesting a possible replacement or that they are not a perfectly matched pair. The stone tray and metal frame show light surface wear and minor scratches.
