A collection of vintage farrier hardware and equestrian artifacts, primarily consisting of heavy iron horseshoes. The assortment includes various sizes and profiles of traditional U-shaped shoes, some featuring integral heels or calkins designed for traction. The items are constructed from forged and cast iron, showing a typical industrial finish for the period. Within the group, one horseshoe is made of a polished yellow-toned metal, possibly brass. Several pieces are bound together with white natural fibre twine. The collection also includes miscellaneous rusted metal fragments and potential remnants of farrier nails mixed among the shoes. The items are presented in a clear plastic storage container. A white adhesive label is present on the rim of the bin, printed with the numbers 10 10.
Condition report:
The collection is in excavated or used condition with heavy oxidation and surface corrosion across all iron components (photo 1). Significant rust, surface pitting, and accumulation of dirt are visible throughout the lot. The brass-toned horseshoe shows surface scratches and tarnishing but lacks the heavy oxidation of the iron pieces. The plastic storage bin is functional but shows scuffing and dust consistent with storage of industrial items.
