Lot 40: Two large decorative vases comprising one glazed earthenware vessel and one glass mosaic vessel
Two decorative vases of differing styles and construction. The first is a bulbous earthenware vase with a short, flared neck. The exterior is finished in a metallic olive-grey glaze, featuring hand-decorated panels with a band of scrolling motifs and a geometric section containing dark leopard-spot patterns set against a crackle-textured ground. Horizontal bands of gold-tone lustre accent the neck and shoulder. An orange adhesive price label with the handwritten digits 40 and a small white adhesive lot label with the printed number 17 are attached to the body. No maker’s name or marks are readable. The second vessel is a large ovoid glass vase with a flared rim, constructed with a surface mosaic of small, irregularly shaped glass tiles. The tiles are in varied shades of amber, honey-gold, and dark chocolate brown with an iridescent finish. An orange adhesive label with the handwritten digits 40 is applied to the upper portion of the vase. No maker’s name or marks are readable.
Condition report:
The earthenware vase exhibits several prominent hairline cracks extending across the main body (photo 1 and photo 3). The mosaic glass vase shows no missing tiles or significant chips in the provided images (photo 1 and photo 2).
