Lot 205: Carstens Tonnieshof West German Midcentury Abstract Trailed Design Bowl
A large mid-century studio pottery bowl manufactured by Carstens Tonnieshof, West Germany. The stoneware bowl is of shallow circular form with a cream-coloured glazed exterior. The interior is decorated with a series of finely spaced, concentric incised rings that create a textured, lathe-turned effect. This textured surface is overlaid with a distinctive abstract geometric pattern in ochre and brown tones, featuring sharp, intersecting and jagged linear forms created through a trailing technique. Two adhesive reference labels are present on the interior surface: a white rectangular label printed with 11 11 and an orange label with the handwritten characters 205. No manufacturer marks or signatures are visible on the interior.
Condition report:
The bowl is in good overall condition. There are no visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs. The glazed surfaces exhibit some light surface scuffing and minor production-related pitting consistent with the manufacturing process.
