Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two silver-plated table service items from the late 19th or early 20th century. The first item is an oval-form teapot in the Victorian Aesthetic style, featuring a vertically fluted lower body and a hinged, domed lid with matching fluting. The lid is surmounted by a carved bone or synthetic finial. One side of the body is decorated with a fine-line engraving depicting a swallow in flight amongst floral sprays and scrolled foliage, all contained within a dotted bright-cut style rectangular border. It is constructed with a curved, multi-faceted spout and a C-scroll handle featuring a thumb rest. The second item is a condiment set housed in a circular gallery tray with a reticulated pierced rim and a polished wooden base. The set includes a salt cellar with a cobalt blue glass liner and a matching spoon, a pepper shaker, and a lidded mustard pot or second shaker, each decorated with gadrooned borders. An orange adhesive price label reading 89 is applied to the shoulder of the teapot. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or country-of-origin marks are legible on the exterior surfaces of the items shown.

Condition report:

The teapot shows surface scratches and light tarnishing consistent with age (photo 1). There is a small area of localized wear or surface corrosion visible near the lid hinge (photo 2). The condiment set remains in bright polished condition; the cobalt blue glass liner is intact and the wooden base shows light surface wear (photo 1). No other significant dents or losses are visible.
