Lot 527: A Group of Four 1966 FIFA World Cup Ticket Stubs for Matches at Old Trafford
A collection of four original paper ticket stubs for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, held in England. Each ticket is for the Eighth Final (group stage) matches hosted by Manchester United F.C. Ltd. at Old Trafford, Manchester. The tickets are for the Groundside standing area at the Stretford End. Three tickets are for the match held on Wednesday, 20 July 1966, with a 7:30 p.m. kick-off, bearing serial numbers 00394, 00223, and 00380. The fourth ticket is for the match held on Saturday, 16 July 1966, with a 3:00 p.m. kick-off, also bearing serial number 00380.
The tickets feature a printed graphic of the 1966 World Cup logo, consisting of a football overlaid with the Union Jack and the Jules Rimet Cup. Centrally printed text reads WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP JULES RIMET CUP 1966 EIGHTH FINAL. The lower section includes a printed signature of the Secretary of the Football Association, Denis Follows, next to the price of 7/6. Each ticket retains its perforated counterfoil on the left-hand side, which replicates the match details and serial numbers. The top edges of the tickets bear small handwritten notations in blue ink, including the letters LH.
Condition report:
The tickets are in fair condition consistent with age and use. There is moderate creasing and multiple vertical and horizontal fold lines across all four items (photo 1). General surface soiling and foxing, manifesting as brown spots, are visible throughout, particularly near the edges and on the reverse. The paper stock shows significant toning and yellowing. There is minor wear, softening, and occasional tiny nicks to the edges and corners (photo 1). Handwritten notations in ink are present on the upper margins of all tickets.
