Two original paper tickets for the World Championship 1966 (Jules Rimet Cup) 3rd & 4th Place Final match between Portugal and the Soviet Union, held at the Empire Stadium, Wembley. The event took place on Thursday, July 28, 1966, with a 7:30 p.m. kick-off. The tickets are for the East Standing Enclosure, accessed via Entrance 14, Turnstile C. Both tickets are printed on textured paper with an orange and white colour scheme.
The central graphic on each ticket depicts a stylized orange globe with a trophy and the text WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 1966 Jules Rimet Cup. Each ticket bears a printed black signature of D. Follows, identified as the SECRETARY of THE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION. The price is printed as 7/6. One ticket is a complete example retaining the left-hand entry stub printed with THIS PORTION TO BE GIVEN UP. The second ticket consists of the main body only, with the entry stub removed at the vertical perforation. The complete ticket features a handwritten mark in pink ink at the top right corner reading Wg. The reverse of the tickets contains printed text regarding the plan and conditions of entry.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age and handling. The complete ticket (right) has a pronounced horizontal fold across the centre and a smaller vertical crease near the right edge (photo 1). It also features a handwritten pink ink inscription at the top right corner. The partial ticket (left) shows light vertical creasing and minor foxing or age-related browning, particularly towards the left edge (photo 1). Both pieces exhibit slight yellowing to the paper and minor wear to the edges and corners consistent with their age.
