A pair of English sterling silver spoons, comprising a large tablespoon and a small salt spoon. Both pieces are executed in the classic Fiddle pattern, characterised by a broad, flat handle and distinct shoulders at the junction of the stem and bowl. The tablespoon features a series of hallmarks struck vertically on the reverse of the handle: a lowercase letter s in a square cartouche; a leopard’s head mark; a lion passant; and a maker’s mark reading WC in a rectangular cartouche. The salt spoon bears four marks on the reverse of the handle which are partially obscured by surface oxidation and wear; while the lion passant is identifiable, the other characters are not clearly legible.
Weight: 77.74g.
Condition report:
Both spoons exhibit heavy surface tarnish and oxidation consistent with age (photo 1). The tablespoon bowl shows several small pits, scratches, and a noticeable dent near the centre (photo 2). The smaller salt spoon displays light surface scratching and minor abrasions (photo 2).
