Lot 493: A Set of Five Vintage Glazed Wooden Display Cases with Red Fabric Lining
A set of five vintage display cases of varying sizes, comprising two large wall-mountable vitrines and three smaller shallow tabletop cases. The large cases are constructed from a light-toned wood, likely oak or stained pine, featuring mitred corners and glazed fronts. The interiors are lined with a vibrant red felt or velvet fabric. One large case has a small metal key attached to the glass with adhesive tape. The three smaller cases are constructed from a darker stained wood with a similar glazed and red fabric-lined design. One small case features a series of small pins or mounting points evenly spaced across the backing, suitable for displaying medals or badges. A hand-written paper label is present inside the central small case reading KENDAL’S DISPLAY CASE KEYS in black ink. The cases are finished with a clear varnish or lacquer.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age-related wear throughout. The wooden frames exhibit scuffs, scratches, and rubbing to the finish, particularly noticeable on the edges and corners of the darker small cases (photo 1). The glass panels on the larger cases show surface smudging and light scratches. A white rectangular paper residue or sticker is present on the glass of the right-hand large case, and a similar piece of tape is on the left large case holding a key. The red fabric linings appear generally intact, though there is evidence of light dust and potential minor fading consistent with age. A small white adhesive label is visible in the lower right corner of the rightmost tabletop case.
