Lot 487: Chinese Rosewood Ming Style Single Drawer Side Table

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A Chinese side table constructed from rosewood with a dark reddish-brown finish, designed in the Ming style. The square top features a mitred frame over a narrow recessed waist. The apron houses a single frieze drawer, which is notable for a circular handle carved directly into the wood face in the form of a geometric Shou (longevity) character. The table is supported by four straight legs with beaded inner edges, terminating in inward-curving hoof feet. The construction utilizes traditional joinery techniques consistent with 20th-century reproductions of classical Chinese furniture. A yellow circular adhesive sticker is present on the upper left corner of the table top, though the text upon it is not legible.

Condition report:

The table shows signs of significant wear and surface damage. There is extensive scuffing, abrasions, and loss of finish along the front and left-hand edges of the table top (photo 1). The legs exhibit minor surface abrasions and small nicks consistent with age and utility. The carved drawer handle appears intact with no visible chips to the fretwork. Cardboard spacers are present between the table and adjacent objects in the image, suggesting recent transport or storage, but these are not part of the item itself.
