A mid-century blanket chest or storage trunk constructed from oak and oak-faced veneers. The rectangular form features a hinged top with a central recessed panel defined by a contrasting darker stained border. The front elevation is decorated with three rectangular panels created by applied timber moldings above a scalloped lower apron. The piece is supported on integrated bracket feet formed by the side and front rails. The interior is finished in a lighter-toned wood, possibly plywood or a similar secondary softwood, and reveals a single open storage compartment. The lid is secured by two dark-finished metal butt hinges. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the interior or exterior surfaces of the piece.
Condition report:
The chest shows signs of age and regular domestic use. The top surface displays numerous shallow scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish wear, particularly visible within the central panel and along the leading edges (photo 1). There are small chips and losses to the veneer and finish on the lower corners and feet (photo 1). The interior is generally clean, although a few minor dark marks and surface scratches are present on the base panel (photo 2). The hinges appear to be in functional condition.
