Lot 330: An Assortment of Decorative Brass and Glassware
A collection of decorative brass items including a geometric glass and brass lantern or terrarium, a modernist spiral candlestick, and a traditional heavy cast brass cauldron. The geometric lantern is constructed from flat clear glass panels held within a soldered brass frame in a dodecahedron form, featuring a suspension ring and a hinged opening. The modernist candlestick is fashioned from polished brass with a series of graduating concentric rings forming a spiral base, supporting a central stem and a tulip-shaped sconce. The cast brass cauldron is of heavy-walled construction with a fixed lug and a flat-profile swing handle, showing a deep natural patina. A fourth item, a traditional cast brass candlestick with a baluster-form stem and stepped circular base, is partially included. The items bear several adhesive labels: a small orange rectangular label on the cauldron handle marked 330, and several small white rectangular labels marked 14 applied to the cauldron rim, the spiral candlestick base, the lantern frame, and the traditional candlestick. No maker marks, signatures, or hallmarks are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The collection shows varying states of wear consistent with use and age. The geometric lantern shows visible tarnishing and oxidation to the soldered brass joints and some surface residue on the interior glass panels (photo 1). The modernist spiral candlestick remains in a bright polished state with minor surface fingerprints and light scratches (photo 1). The cast brass cauldron exhibits significant aged patina, surface oxidation, and internal verdigris and pitting (photo 1). The traditional candlestick shows a duller aged patina with surface tarnish (photo 1). No chips or cracks are visible to the glass panels of the lantern.
