This lot comprises a shallow, hand-woven coiled basket and a hardcover book. The basket is constructed from dried vegetable fibres, possibly raffia, using a traditional coiling technique where a central foundation is wrapped and stitched in a continuous spiral. The weave incorporates a vibrant palette of dyed pink, green, and yellow fibres against a natural cream-coloured background, forming a concentric geometric pattern. On the interior surface, a small white rectangular adhesive label is present; however, the characters on this label are not legible.
The accompanying book is titled History of the World by Richard Overy, subtitled The Ultimate Work of Historical Reference. It is a large-format edition featuring a blue dust jacket with a silhouette illustration of Stonehenge.
Condition report:
The woven basket is in generally good condition with the dyed colours remaining vibrant. There is visible minor fraying of the raffia fibres along the outer rim (photo 1). The book appears to be in good condition, although it is shown inverted in the provided image. No significant structural breaks or losses are visible in the weaving.
