Lot 3: Three Pairs of Graduated 19th Century English Brass Candlesticks

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of three pairs of graduated brass candlesticks, demonstrating various traditional English forms. The tallest pair features turned baluster stems with ring-turned accents, supported by stepped square bases with concave corners. The middle pair is constructed with multiple-knop baluster stems on stepped, chamfered rectangular bases. The smallest pair exhibits the beehive and ring-turned stem design, a form popular in the George II style, set upon lobed hexagonal bases. All examples are formed from cast and turned brass components joined by internal screw-threads. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or manufacturer labels are visible on any of the items.

Condition report:

The collection shows a bright, polished finish throughout with general surface wear consistent with age and utilitarian use. One of the tallest candlesticks contains significant verdigris and hardened wax residue within the candle socket (photo 1). Surface oxidation and tarnish are visible across all pairs, particularly concentrated in the turned crevices and around the candle cups (photo 1). Minor surface scratches, pitting, and small dings are present on the stems and bases. Some minor deformation and unevenness are visible to the edges of the bases.
