Lot 254: S. Hislop and Others, A Trio of Framed Landscapes

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A trio of landscape artworks in various media. The first work is an oil painting on a textured canvas support, depicting a parkland scene with a grey stone bridge arching over a waterway, flanked by pink-blossomed shrubs and mature trees. A signature in black paint reading S. HISLOP is located in the upper right corner. The canvas is housed in an off-white painted wooden frame. The second work is a modernist landscape in watercolour or gouache on paper, featuring a view through bare wintry branches towards abstract blue and ochre blocks. A handwritten signature in the lower right corner is not clearly legible as a name. It is presented behind glass in a light-coloured wood-effect frame. The third work is a monochrome print or wash drawing in a panoramic format, showing a coastal landscape with high-contrast reflections of shoreline structures upon a dark water surface. This work is presented behind glass in a dark-stained wooden frame with a gilded inner slip. An orange adhesive label bearing the handwritten number 254 is present on each piece, and a small white adhesive label reading 6 or 9 is visible on two of the frames.

Condition report:

The oil painting on canvas (photo 1) shows some loss of tension with slight buckling at the corners, and the paint surface exhibits a light layer of surface dust. The watercolour landscape (photo 2) is framed under glass and appears to be in good order, though the frame shows minor scuffing to the edges. The monochrome panoramic work (photo 3) shows visible age-related toning to the paper support and several small spots of foxing, particularly evident in the lighter areas of the sky and water reflections. The dark-stained frame has some minor finish wear to the corners.
